A Mother's Anger

I just love American politics. Candidates sometimes do some really stupid things.

Senator McCain tried to go on the offensive against Senator Obama and instead insulted one of his rich donors. What did the McCain campaign expect?

You gotta expect a mother to say something when you insult her daughter. I wonder how the McCain campaign couldn't see this response coming. The Huffington Post reported the following statement by Kathy Hilton:

"I've been asked again and again for my response to the now infamous McCain celebrity ad. I actually have three responses. It is a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign. It is a complete waste of the country's time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs. And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next President of the United States."

Well said! You can read more about it in this Associated Press story.

Bush McSame would be better off sticking to the issues,... if he can.

Addendum:

This morning, a friend sent to me this e-mail message:

"I'm not a McCain supporter nor an Obama supporter but the ad is true. Comparing people that have received news cycle stealing coverage that is not proportionate to their personal achievements thus far. It is a fair observation. This entire election process has been an abomination. Obama, doesn't deserve the gushing media coverage he gets. If he is anything and probably everything that Deval Patrick is we're in for a world of hurt. Literally."

"I'm looking for a smart plan from either candidate and just haven't seen one yet. Very frustrating that the 100s of millions spent and months (now years) of coverage and we're still this uninformed. Hopefully these last debates will ask tough policy questions and not more questions for entertainment purposes."

My response to my conservative-leaning friend:

If the media coverage is out of whack, blame the media not Obama.

Keep in mind that Obama is the FIRST serious African-American presidential candidate by a major political group. That's a HUGE first in this country, given that African-Americans couldn't vote in most states 50 years ago. So, I am willing to give the media a little slack because of that... and since most of the world is watching the USA now to see if we live up to our Constitution and ideals during this election cycle.

But, I agree with you... I want all of the candidates to stick to the issues: the economy, housing crisis, gas, energy policy, credit crisis, apparent recession, the wars, etc.
